Ride of the Month: Huckaby to Adobe Jack

This ride incorporates some old classics with some of the newer trails in Sedona to make a loop with just a little pavement.

Start at the free parking in Uptown Sedona. Ride down the hill through Uptown Sedona and turn left on SR179 to cross Oak Creek. Go around the traffic circle to Schnebly Hill Road. Climb up Schnebly Hill Road until you reach the parking lot/trail head on your left. The Huckaby Trail starts from here.

Huckaby traverses and climbs for a while and then descend relatively technically down to Oak Creek. You will need to wade through the creek to continue on Huckaby to the intersection with Midgely Bridge Trail. Turn right and climb out of the creek to Wilson Canyon Trail. Ride Wilson Canyon to Jim Thompson and turn left again.

Jim Thompson eventually crosses a road to Jordan Trail. Ride Jordan for several miles, passing several trail intersections, to Grand Central. Turn left on Grand Central and shortly after turn right onto Adobe Jack Trail to descend back towards Uptown Sedona. You can take Crusty to the Burger King connector to reduce the amount of pavement you’ll need to ride back to the free parking in Uptown Sedona.

This is a moderately technical and moderately strenuous ride, so bring water and snack!

For more info and a geo-locating map, which will be useful on this somewhat complicated ride, see the free Trailforks app.

Propaganda: Avoid delay! This is the best time of year to service your suspension! (Or your whole bike for that matter!)

So the weather has been staying warm throughout Northern Arizona, but with any luck we’ll see some much needed precipitation and colder temps soon.

Every spring and summer we have folks come in needing significant service on their bikes, and the trails are in primo condition. Even though we have kept our turn-around time low throughout our busy seasons, repairs take time and we sometimes need to order parts. This can cut into your valuable in-season riding time!

Come drop your bike or bikes off when the weather turns! We recommend having your suspension components service, overhauling bearings, replacing drive trains and these sorts of “major” services now, rather than in the middle of the best riding days!
