Ride of the Month: West Sedona beginner/intermediate loop option

Perhaps the only legitimate complaint one could make about riding in Sedona is the lack of easier riding opportunities. This loop provides an option for beginner to intermediate mountain bikers in a concise loop. This is still legit mountain biking, and beginners will probably walk a few spots, but everyone should have a great time on this ride!

Start at the Long Canyon trail head off Long Canyon Road. You can access this by driving through west Sedona to Dry Creek Road and turning left. Make a right at the “T” intersection after a few miles. Long Canyon trail head is on your left.

Ride up Long Canyon Trail for a mile or so, be sure to turn left onto Deadman Pass Trail to avoid riding into the wilderness! Climb over Deadman Pass. Watch for hikers as you descend towards the Boynton Canyon trail head. Cross the tail head access road and continue across Boynton Pass Road on Aerie Trail.

Turn left on Cockscomb Trail. Stay left when you get to Dawa Trail. After you descend to cross Dry Creek (usually a dry creek bed, go figure…) you’ll turn right onto Arizona Cypress Trail. Follow this to the split in the AZ Cypress Trail where you’ll stay left. Bear left onto Girdner Trail to climb up to Dry Creek/Boynton Pass Road. Cross the road to the single track.

You’ll need to find your way around the Dry Creek trail head to continue on Chuckwagon Trail. After the longish descent on Chuckwagon, you’ll turn left on Mescal and the turn right to the Long Canyon trail head access. Ride back to your staging spot at Long Canyon trail head.

Propaganda: Thanks for another great year!

2017 was a great year for us, and we hope for you.

We helped to show some folks a good time at the Sedona Mountain Bike Festival, helped out with Bike to Work Week, helped put a new and different route together for the Taylor House Ride, supported National Trails Day (finishing the Rogers Lake Connector Trail!) and Pedals v Pistons v Horseshoes v Hiking Boots Trail Day, put on the first annual Flagstaff Enduro, supported the Barn Burner, we’re supporting AZ Cross and the ROAM Fest this weekend, we got the Coconino High School Panthers set up with jerseys and helped out a bunch of other AZ Interscholastic Cycling League riders with deals on bikes, many other raffles for good causes, miracles to get or keep folks riding, efforts on behalf of bike advocacy, and much more.

None of this would be possible without the ongoing support from our customers, Team members, and the participants in the events that we help put together. You all are the reason for our efforts, and we are proud to be able to work and ride with you!

We are grateful for you all and your support! Thank you for a great 2017! Gobble, gobble…
