Absolute Bikes group rides in Flagstaff! Through the summer we will be hosting some group rides. Click here for updates and additions to our schedule.

  •       Tuesday Morning Rides, 6:30 am every Tuesday through the summer, starting at Absolute Bikes, Flagstaff. Challenging mountain bike routes, fast-ish pace, but no drop.
  •       Friday Technical MTB Ride, 10:00 am from Absolute Bikes, Flagstaff. Ride with Vince “Noodles” Rideau on technical routes. Time will be spent discussing and tuning suspension, practicing climbing and descending technical moves. No one left behind, challenging terrain. A great way to hone your skills on the rough stuff! Starting May 25th.
  •       Saturday “B” Road Ride on Lake Mary Road, Not in the mood to get hammered by the weekly Saturday “Tour de Flagstaff” race? Are you new to road riding and you want to ride with a group and get some tips? Meet us at the “mailboxes” on Lake Mary Road, (near the Canyon Vista campground), at 10 am on Saturdays for a no-drop group road ride. Mellow pace, potential to split into smaller groups if enough folks of different skill levels show. Starting Saturday, June 9th.

Red Rock Racing Wednesdays Snowbowl Hill Climb! Through the summer Red Rock Racing will be hosting a ride out-and-back on Snowbowl Road. Meet at the bottom of Snowbowl Road at 4 pm every Wednesday. This should be an average fast-ish paced ride, but not a hammer-fest.

Support a MTB Skills Park, trails and other cycling activities at Ft. Tuthill. The County Parks and Recreation Commission will host a public hearing to discuss the Fort Tuthill County Park Master Plan at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6th in the County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 219 E. Cherry Avenue in Flagstaff. Flagstaff Biking has been advocating for a trails hub and competitive event venue, a mountain bike skills park and other cycling-related facilities at this park. Come to this meeting and show your support!

Team Absolute Bikes has been assisting Safe Kids with Bike Safety Rodeos. Our team members have been pitching in to teach bike safety and traffic rules at several local schools! If your child has come home raving about getting to ride bikes at school, we were probably there instructing them on hand signals, situational awareness remembering to always wear their helmets while riding…

Ride of the Month: Little Elden Trail area

This is mostly a reminder that this vital connector is re-opened now that the damage caused by the Schultz fire and subsequent flooding has been repaired. Within a month or so, Little Bear Trail should also be re-opened, pending the Forest Supervisor’s approval, which will afford us some long missed opportunities to link up loops on the east side of the Mount Elden area again!

As you ride in this area be sure to note the resurgence of thousands of little aspen trees. The US Forest Service and Friends of Northern Arizona Forests, (FONAF), have been building fence exclosures, (mostly visible from Elden Springs Road) to keep elk and deer from grazing on the new aspen shoots until they are big enough to thrive on their own. Various wild flowers and grasses are taking off as well as the forest begins to recover from the fire. Another interesting project to note is the hundreds of plastic cones in the forest, mostly visible from the northern side of Schultz Pass Road. These are protecting newly planted ponderosa seedlings, another USFS/FONAF project.

Riding in this area is a great way to see how the forest recovers and what people are doing to expedite that recovery. Keep in mind that once the monsoon returns, some of the drainages in this area can become deadly dangerous with flooding.

FONAF is driven by membership dollars, so consider joining this group to support their projects on the Forest!

Propaganda: Our cup runneth over!

June is a busy month for bike related events!

Flagstaff Biking Organization is hosting two trail days and Bike to Work Week, the Red Rock Company is promoting the Barn Burner mountain bike race, the Flagstaff Hullabaloo will be hosting some bike-centric festivities…there’s a lot going on!

The funny thing is that June is not much different from other warm months in Flagstaff and Sedona!

We sponsored the Sedona Singletrack Celebration in March.

May was host to the MBAA Flagstaff Frenzy mountain bike race.

We are promoting the Taylor House Century ride in July and sponsoring Mountain Man Events Triathlons in July and August.

We will be hosting the Old Fashioned Mountain Bike Race again in August.

There is a new 12 hour mountain bike race , the Bear Jaw at the Nordic Center in September.

We will be promoting the Sedona Metric Centuries in October…

There are trail building and maintenance events a couple weekends of every month and new trail being opened, (or reopened), constantly.

In addition, there are all sorts of group rides and we are hosting cycling clinics.

Make an effort to participate in a few of these events! We are really excited to be a part of so many of them, but it is the participants that make these happenings so worthwhile, and that helps to make Flagstaff the cycling town that it is!
