Ride of the Month: Chuckwagon Trail, Sedona
Thanks to the Red Rock Ranger District Recreation Staff, we are now able to formally recommend this new addition to the Coconino National Forest’s trail system! This trail is part of the system of trail in the Dry Creek area. From Highway 89 in west Sedona, turn onto Dry Creek Road, (basically northwest). Stay on the pavement until the road “T”s; turn right. In a tenth of a mile or so, there is a large pull-out. You can park here, with a Red Rock Pass, or ride here from town.
A short spur takes you out to a “T” intersection with the Chuckwagon Trail. A left hand turn will take you, after several miles of awesome singletrack, to a creek bed crossing that may be running water. You can connect with a dirt road that dead ends to the left at an historic cabin, and takes you out to Dry Creek Road, (the dirt part, FR 152), to the right.
There are many options to tie this trail in with Deadman Pass and the trails in the Herkenham area.
Check in at Absolute Bikes, Sedona to get some local knowledge and check out a map.
The Red Rock District recently adopted this trail and some others as part of an ongoing effort to address the need to provide some other and more challenging opportunities for mountain biking in Sedona. Make an effort to get out to at least one of the three volunteer events the District will be hosting. See above for details.
Propaganda: Out with the old, in with the new!
We are working on a bunch of new stuff for the new year here at Absolute Bikes!
As mentioned above, we are dramatically expanding our Sedona location. We’ll be able to stock more bikes and gear for the folks who live throughout the Verde Valley, and more schwag for folks visiting from out of town. We will also be hosting Hermosa Tours, ( http://www.hermosatours.net/index.html ), through part of the year in our new location. These guys are pros at guiding single and multi day mountain bike trips!
We are also working on a new web site! This site will be a great tool for providing event info and registration, rental reservations, details on our sales programs, like the BroBuddy Rebate Program, and info on our work in the community. We’re also going to be posting staff bios and a bunch of fun photos and videos…we’ll let you know when this goes live for sure.
As you are also probably aware, we are proudly representing KHS Bicycles in Northern Arizona. We are excited to be working with these guys as they offer some things that not everyone has, like tandems and folding bikes, in addition to a solid line up of well designed nicely spec’d traditional models (road, mountain, etc). In addition, we are stocking Free Agent BMX and some Manhattan models that come to us with KHS.
As always, we are trying to always be improving what we do and how we do it. Our goal is to be the best bike shop that we can be in order to be able to provide the best ride that we can for our customers!
Thanks for your continued business!
