Ride info, route maps & elevation profilesMass start at 7 a.m. from Flagstaff Medical Center, 1200 N. Beaver, West campus parking lot. Check-in: Rules: Please stay to the right hand side of the road and do not block vehicle traffic! Please be respectful of other riders. If you do ride with aero bars, do not ride in a pack with others. If someone has a flat or other issue mechanical or otherwise, please try to assist him/her. BE SAFE!!!! Weather: Typically the ride weather is somewhat hot, with temperatures in the mid-80s. The 95 mile route actually drops significantly lower in elevation, and therefore temperatures can be as high as near 100 degrees for the mid-portion of the ride. This is the reason we have a time limit, 9:30am, for cresting the pass on Highway 89A; we really want folks climbing out of the heat before mid-day. IMPORTANT! Afternoon monsoon rainstorms are common at this event! Bring a rain jacket! At elevation, temperatures can drop quickly in these storms. If you get caught out in a thunderstorm, please be aware of the dangers that lightning and hypothermia can present. ALSO IMPORTANT! Carry plenty of water! We have lots of sag support and well stocked rest stops, but you should be hydrating regularly throughout the entire ride. The combination of elevation and temperatures can lead to dehydration quickly. Drink early and often. Electrolyte drinks are highly recommended. Routes: See here for maps and elevation profiles with details. The 45 mile route is easily attainable for anyone who rides most weekend. The 65 mile route is challenging for anyone, but not out of reach for any road riding enthusiast. The 95 mile route is exceptionally challenging because of the combination of distance, elevation gain and temperatures. This ride is well supported by sag vehicles. If you are unable to complete whichever ride you chose, we should be along shortly to help you or pick you up if you need a ride. We recommend that you install new tires before this ride. Road conditions can vary and there can be some debris on the shoulder that can cause flats. Ideally, we recommend a Specialized Armadillo Elite tire or something similar. Download
