Ride of the Month: Bill Williams Mountain
This ride is a classic old-school trail ride, full of grades too steep to ride, rocks and roots that punctuate sections of pristine back-country sweet singletrack. There are lots of aspens which makes this a great fall season ride.
Park your vehicle and start the ride from the Williams Ranger Station, pedal up Bill Williams trail, then turn left a few hundred yards up the trail onto trail #124. Continue riding east on trail #124 until you get to the city of Williams.
Ride east, straight through Williams, and then turn right onto Perkinsville RD. This takes you past a reservoir and up past some open meadows. Proceed up Perkinsville road approximately 3 miles, and turn right when you get to a sign pointing to a dirt road that says “Benham trail”. Benham trail climbs approximately 1600′ vertical, and you will total 2200′ vertical difference from where you started at the ranger station. Benham trail is fairly steep, and primitive, but is well worth the efforts to enjoy the breath taking views from the top of Bill Williams Mountain. The trail passes over an access road many times, but eventually ends up on the same road at the top. (You might opt for the road on the last pitch as the trail becomes impossibly steep!)
Then about 200 yards ahead, and on the left, is where Bill Williams Trail starts. Bill Williams Trail is steep at the top with rocks and some hairpin turns. The lower part of the trail is fast and fun with many rocks and waterbars to jump off of. There is only about 50′ of climbing on this entire trail, so you don”t have to worry about having much energy left, so just enjoy and launch of some of the rocks until you get back to your start point.
Propaganda: Thanks for supporting the 1st Annual Arizona Snowbowl Flagstaff Enduro Presented by Absolute Bikes!
The Arizona Snowbowl Flagstaff Enduro Presented by yours truly, Absolute Bikes, is the first “first-year” event we have done in about 15 years. Additionally, this event had a lot of “moving pieces”. It is essentially 6 different races, over two days, with food vendors, a bus shuttle, lots of volunteers, (some of who had to clinic on how to run timing equipment), complicated permitting, and more.
By all the feedback that we have received, we did good! Everyone seemed to have a great time! We hope to do this event again, and we have already started brain storming for next year’s courses.
We collectively raised $5660.62 , that’s $2830.31 for the Flagstaff Family Food Center and $2830.31 to the Flagstaff Biking Organization Fort Tuthill Bike Park Fund!
We want to thank all of the businesses and volunteers that helped make this event do awesome:
And, of course, all of the folks who participated in this year’s race!
