Ride of the Month: Fort Tuthill Bike Park (new stuff!)

Flagstaff Biking Organizations fund raising efforts have worked to hire American Conservation Experience to build some more of the Fort Tuthill Bike Park.

The new features consist of skinnies, log rolls, rock gardens, board walks and other skills-features that challenge riders to improve their riding skills and have fun! Click here for some pictures: https://www.facebook.com/flagstaffbiking/posts/10155010043530155

This adds to the already existing flow trails and kids pump-track.

We know a guy, and apparently there may be a bunch more funding coming to build out the more trails and features soon. On the horizon are progressive drops, cyclocross features, a couple of pump tracks and two tech flow trails. Watch Flagstaff Biking Organization’s  Facebook page for updates on this, trail days and trails advocacy, and this month’s Flagstaff Bike to Work and School Week!

Propaganda: May is National Bike Month!

With so many other pursuits and means on conveyance vying for Americans’ attention, we are proud that the League of American Bicyclists continues to promote National Bike Month every year with the help of hundreds of local and state advocacy organizations, thousands of bike shops and millions of cyclists.

The bicycle is an important part of American and Flagstaff history. The Wright Brothers built the first airplane in their bike shop. Bicyclists efforts lead to the paving of the roads before the automobile took them over. Bicycling played a key role in the women’s rights movement. The Coconino Cycling Club was leading rides to Grand Canyon over a hundred years ago. Lowell Observatory’s workings were fabricated at the Sykes Brothers’ Bike Shop on Aspen Avenue during the turn of the last century.

Bicycles continue to be one of the most important modes of transportation in the United States and the world. If you haven’t ridden in a while, we hope you’ll use this month’s celebration as a reason to throw your leg over your bike again. If you ride a lot, encourage your less frequently cycling friends to get out and ride with you.

As important a role as the bicycle has played in empowerment, industry, science, and transportation, we think one of its most important attributes is how much joy a good ride can bring to folks.

Now, get on your bikes and ride!
